Arkansas Bear Records

Scoring systems provide many important things to the hunting world. First of all, they provide a venue for consistent long term record keeping for harvested game animals. Secondly, they create a platform in which an animals size can be compared to other animals of its species. Thirdly, they set a standard for a 'trophy' animal. This 'trophy' status is designed to honor the animal and honor the method in which the animal was harvested.

Black bears are scored by measuring the length and the width of the dried skull. Bear skulls are not eligible to be scored until 60 days after all hide, skin and flesh have been completely removed from the skull, allowing for complete drying.

The ABBA is in the process of developing and launching an official record keeping system for Arkansas black bear. Look for more information on this in the fall of 2013.
